Travelling with HIV

Off on holiday? Here are the most important tips for travelling with HIV!

  1. Take enough medication with you!  Take enough medication with you for the entire duration of your trip. If you are travelling to a different time zone, discuss your medication schedule with your healthcare professional to ensure that you always take your medication at the right time. For longer journeys via embassies, take into account the customs regulations for medicines.
  2. Research health services: Before travelling, look for healthcare facilities at your destination that can provide assistance with HIV-related issues. Find out about the locations of pharmacies and clinics.
  3. Observe local laws: Find out about the laws relating to HIV at your destination. There are still countries that have restrictions on the entry or residence of people with HIV. You should therefore find out about existing restrictions before travelling at www.hivtravel.org.
  4. Carry important documents with you: Please save copies of important documents such as your health insurance card and your medication prescription. If you consult a healthcare professional abroad, you will find information on cost coverage in the QR code below.
  5. Exchange experiences: There are various organisations on our website positive-life.ch that can share their experiences and give you tips on travel, for example. Here is an overview: positive-life.ch/join/
